Anticipated/Perceived Cityhood Benefits
Jan 2009
- Housing density is an issue that can better be controlled within a city (more local concern and influence)
- City planners may better address pollution, which is more of an issue when houses/apartments/child care center growth is planned near freeways
- Since many parts of Jurupa Valley (e.g. Mira Loma) are zoned A-1 (Animal/Agriculture), cityhood might be
beneficial to ensure that low density housing and other rural issues are locally addressed
- There has been a lack of new parks or community centers since the 70's. City planners might be more responsive to local needs
Dec 2008
- With their own city, Jurupa Valley residents would have more influence and direct control over city safety, security, city planning/zoning, and other
issues of local interest (many such items are currently controlled by Riverside County, the Services Districts, or the State of California [traffic control])
- A local Jurupa Valley police force might be more responsive due to officers concentrating their efforts specifically within the Jurupa Valley community
- Cityhood can lead to more responsive reporting and identification of local traffic control issues
- Transition from unincorporated county into a city would preclude potential annexation of land within Jurupa Valley from neighboring cities
- With the commercial build-up along the I-15 corridor (near Limonite Ave) there
is a large gain in tax revenue which would help sustain and perpetuate Jurupa Valley city services
